If you’re about to extract a tooth from your jaw, then you are on your way to a better and healthier smile. This might not seem like the case now, but it will in the future. However, this will only be the case if you properly recover. So, our dentist, Dr. Mark Hughen, would like to help you recover by giving you the tips you need. Those tips are:
-It’s best to rest for the first two to three days following surgery. If necessary, lie down the first 24 hours and then limit activity the following two days.
-Take the medication given to you by your dentist. This can help you remain comfortable during the recovery period.
-Help stop the bleeding by biting down on gauze pads regularly. When they fill with blood, replace them with more pads until the bleeding clots.
-Ice the area with an ice pack to minimize swelling and pain.
-Don’t rinse your mouth or spit within the first 24 hours of the removal.
-Don’t use a straw while you’re healing because it can dislodge the blood clot and cause complications.
-Only eat soft foods while you’re recovering, like yogurt, ice cream, and soup.
-Brush your teeth. While you’re doing so, avoid the surgical site so you don’t brush away the clot or harm the area.
